Last week Art Fag City‘s online interview with Rhizome‘s Ben Fino-Radin on Curation & Conservation asked some questions about maintaining digital content in Artbase and how control and preservation can be handled with borne-digital works (even mentioning everyone’s least favorite: linkrot). He does a much better job than I ever could at describing what it means to handle the technical data of borne digital objects in a database, so it’s worth the read if you haven’t been over to see the article yet.
Also, through kind twitter references, he pointed me toward this Vintage Computer schema created by the Maryland Institute for Technology in the Humanities (MITH). Click over and browse around!
Things I especially like about it: provenance records are listed in the schema when available, multiple fields have been created for part/model/serial/ID numbers, and multi-format downloads of the XML record (including Omeka) are freely available. I can dig.
